Exploring Old Lahore - A Journey of Discovery

Old Lahore is a city that holds a special place in the hearts of many. Its narrow streets and bustling bazaars are a testament to the city's vibrant past, and exploring them is an adventure in itself. Recently, I had the opportunity to embark on a journey through Old Lahore, and it was an experience that left a lasting impression on me.

In this blog, I will take you through my journey and share with you the sights and sounds that I encountered along the way. I hope that by sharing my journey with you, you will get a glimpse of the beauty and magnificence of Old Lahore and be inspired to visit this enchanting city yourself. So, let's dive in!

"Culture is the arts elevated to a set of beliefs"
"Culture, the acquainting ourselves with the best that has been known and said in the world, and thus with the history of the human spirit"
"Culture is not a matter of fact; it's a matter of imagination."

How this journey is different from my daily tour

  • Planning the Journey
  • Documenting the Journey
  • Analyzing the Photos
  • Identifying the Problems
  • Creating the Digital Pamphlet
  • Outcome

Planning the Journey

To capture the essence of my journey, I decided to carry a camera with me but I'm can was unable to find that, (GAP 01) so I decide to move with my Mobile Phone and document my travels through Old Lahore. I planned my route, starting from my home and ending at the university. Along the way, I took photos of anything that caught my eye - from the architecture of old buildings to the people and their daily lives.

Documenting the Journey

Over the course of two days, I took a total of 50 photos, capturing the spirit of Old Lahore, but I lost my some images as these were captured on my Friends mobile phone.(GAP 2)  Each photo tells a unique story, and together they paint a picture of the city's rich history and cultural heritage. The photos captured the hustle and bustle of the city, from crowded streets to busy bazaars. The images I took of the PU Pharmacy College and other historical monuments show the incredible architecture and beauty of Old Lahore. I visited arts, painting and IT department.

"A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles. Take the time to connect with the people you meet along the way and document your experiences with them. They will be the ones who will bring your journey to life, long after the memories have faded."
"The more a place meant to me, the less inclined I was to take photographs of it, preferring to take it in with all my senses, until I was saturated with it and it was part of me."

Analyzing the Photos

After documenting my journey through Old Lahore, I sat down to analyze my photos. As I looked through them, a common theme began to emerge - the issue of transport. Many of the photos I had taken highlighted the challenges that people face while commuting in Old Lahore, such as overcrowded buses and long wait times at bus stops. The images of people waiting at bus stops and the crowded buses demonstrate the need for better public transportation in Old Lahore.

Identifying the Problems

Through my photos, I was able to identify three gaps in the travel journey in Old Lahore - inadequate public transport facilities, lack of designated parking areas, and limited accessibility for people with disabilities. Each of these gaps contributes to the challenges that people face when traveling in the city, and addressing them would make a significant impact on the daily lives of the people of Old Lahore. The images of the congested streets and lack of designated parking areas clearly demonstrate the need for change in these areas. (Major GAP 3)

Creating the Digital Pamphlet

To showcase my journey and the issues that I had identified, I created a digital pamphlet that encapsulated my photos and descriptions.

"Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works."

"Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains."

"You've got to start with the customer experience and work back toward the technology - not the other way around."
Steve Jobs •Founder of Apple Company

The pamphlet highlighted the importance of improving the transport infrastructure in Old Lahore and emphasized the need for designated parking areas and better accessibility for people with disabilities. The images I took of the overcrowded buses and the congested streets are perfect to place in the pamphlet to show the issues that need to be addressed.

Outcome

My journey through Old Lahore was a fascinating experience that opened my eyes to the challenges that people face when traveling in the city. By documenting my journey and analyzing my photos, I was able to identify the issues that need to be addressed to improve the travel experience in Old Lahore. I hope that my journey will inspire others to explore the city and to advocate for positive change in their communities. Old Lahore is a city with a rich history and a vibrant culture, and I am proud to have had the opportunity to explore it.

Benjamin Franklin

"Well done is better than well said."

This quote emphasizes the importance of actually completing a journey and achieving a positive outcome rather than just talking about it or planning for it. It highlights the idea that a successful conclusion to a journey is more important than just discussing or dreaming about it. While the planning and preparation phase is important, it is ultimately the end of the journey and the experiences gained from it that truly matter. Therefore, it is important to focus on the end goal and work towards achieving it with dedication and hard work, rather than simply talking or planning about it without taking any action.
